Day 20
“To Stand for God and Right"
(Dedicated to Northeastern Bible School)
To stand for God and right
And know His word
To walk in truth and light
To please the Lord,
To tell to all the world the gospel story
This is our one desire
To serve the One who set us free.

Of the many things that John Hallett did in his life, one of the most meaningful, long-lasting and impacting for the Kingdom of God was when he and two friends started Northeastern Bible School. He wrote this song expressing the desire of the students.
Let’s examine each of the parts of this song. I would say that each section is still relevant almost 60 years after this was written.
To stand for God and right
Let’s follow the example of Josiah, the young king as recorded in 2 Kings 2:22” “He did right in the sight of the LORD and walked in all the way of his father David, nor did he turn aside to the right or to the left.
Micah 6:8 He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
And know His word
Psalm 119:9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word.
Philippians 3:10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
To walk in truth and light
I John 1:5-9 “This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
To please the Lord,
Colossians 1:10 And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God,
1 Thessalonians 4:1 Finally, brothers, we instructed you how to live in order to please God, as in fact you are living. Now we ask you and urge you in the Lord Jesus to do this more and more.
Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him."
Romans 14:17-19 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit, because anyone who serves Christ in this way is pleasing to God and approved by men. Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.”
To tell to all the world the gospel story
Matthew 16:15 And He said to them, " Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Romans 1:16 “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”
This is our one desire to serve the One who set us free.
Psalm 100:2 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before Him with joyful singing.
2 Corinthians 5:15 “And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.”
Psalm 119:45 “I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out Your precepts.”
2 Corintiahsn 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
