Continuing in John Hallett: From A to Z
Director
John directed choirs and orchestras for many years. In addition to his church choirs, he directed at Northeastern Bible College in Essex Fells, New Jersey, of which he was co-founder and Chairman of the Music Department for 11 years. In addition he served as Music Director at the Philadelphia Bible Institute.
In 1960 he formed the John Hallett Chorale & Orchestra, a superb group of 28 vocalists and 18 instrumentalists. They concretized throughout the Northeast. The Chorale and Orchestra according the record cover of their album entitled, John Hallett Chorale and Orchestra: “Deep River – My Song of Songs,” says this about the group:
“All are dedicated Christians from various occupations including ministers, teachers, students, business men, engineers and housewives. Most live in the Metropolitan New York city area. The group includes nine band and choral directors.”
As mentioned in yesterday’s blog, Johnnie was Music Director of the Children’s Bible Hour of Grand Rapids, Michigan, a weekly national broadcast on the ABC radio network.
John also spent time directing at Camp-of-the-Woods in New York and well as other conferences and events.
Here is information from one album John directed on. Unfortunately I do not have this album. For a while it was on a website of sacred music, but I have not been able to locate that site again.
